Is periodontitis hereditary?

NO! Periodontitis is not hereditary. For many patients it would have been appropriate „excuse“, but the majority of periodontal diseases is caused by lack of hygiene and the associated presence of bacteria in unremoved plaque.

The only one thing, which is on periodontitis hereditary is inheritance of inadequate or insufficient hygiene habits in care of teeth. If you are in childhood and adolescence were not led to thorough dental hygiene and you did not have these habits to imitate from someone. It is possible that if your parents have periodontitis you will get it too. But not because you have it in the genes, but because you have never learned how to take care of your teeth.

On the one hand, hard declaration of responsibility, on the other hand, the best news about the fact, that no one is genetically burdened with periodontitis.
